Fire at Corwood Timber destroys building

On May 24 at 12:34 a.m. a building at Corwood Timber, Tahtsa mill burnt down. “There was a fire at the Tahtsa mill site early Wednesday morning. The building that contained the chipper burnt,” said Jim Daigneault, chief of the Houston Volunteer Fire Department. “The call came in at 12:34 a.m, the building was fully involved at that time. We were on site for approximately three hours and had 11 firefighters on scene. The building was a total loss.

Pro-Life special event permit request denied

A request from the Houston Pro-Life group, asked District of Houston council for permission to place 10,000 blue and pink flags to bring awareness to the number of abortions performed each year in Canada along Steelhead Park for day of June 24, 2017. It was recommended by district staff to deny the request, as it is in conflict of with one of town’s development bylaws.

Blue skies, warm weather and lots of mud created the ‘perfect day’ for the Grassy Plains Mud Bog, according to participants. Approximately 350 people attended the annual event and enjoyed a great show put on by the variousentrants. This year’s winner, chosen by people’s choice ballot, was Ken Amonson from Houston. Craig Stoltnbeg, also from Houston, took second place and Logan Armatage, from Fraser Lake, placed third. The ever popular ‘kids mud run’ also had record participation.
