Coming off the coldest winter in recorded history for much of B.C. and a cold, wet spring, I’ve been waiting for someone to blame the latest round of forest fires on conditions created by human-caused global warming.

From dogs roaming freely around town unleashed to dogs barking at all hours of the day, as well as dogs stalking people and other pets while out for a walk to dogs biting and aggressive behaviour, I have heard it all.

I haven’t decided whether it is actually summer or just “northern summer,” that kind of spring feel with occasional hot heat bursts. Whatever it is, I will say this, it is the time of year to unwind outside.

The heartbreaking news of Sean David Kuntz body found in the Fraser River is another tragedy added to the infamous reputation of the Highway of Tears.

Typically I spend every Canada Day long weekend enjoying doing something Canadian. Whether it is kayaking or camping the beautiful outdoors of our “home and native land” or celebrating with all the wonderful members in our community at Jamie Baxter Park, there is always some form of comradery to be shared.

In its brief, desperate legislature session last week, the B.C. Liberal government tried to deliver immediately on one of its many sudden, see-the-light promises after losing its majority in the May election.

Financial contributions continue to pour into the B.C. Liberal Party, documented by its voluntary “real-time” disclosure that started in January and abruptly stopped at the end of May.

The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has given $150 to every branch for Canada’s 150 birthday, and I am honoured to announce that I have been chosen by the Houston branch to be their representative.

Seven years ago I knew this day would come.
