The Houston Midget hockey team has won the zone championship and the right to represent Northwest B.C. at the Tier 4 Midget championships in Surrey

The Houston Midget hockey team will be packing their bags this Friday as zone champions, to represent Northwest B.C. in the Tier 4 Midget championships.

This is the third year in a row that the Midgets have earned the right to represent the region, but prior to that was a time when they hadn't gone at all for a very long time.

The team won the zone banner after defeating Vanderhoof in regionals.

The first year they attended the Houston team won bronze, last year they won silver, so naturally this year they're after gold, organizers say.

The teams they'll need to outplay to get there are a team from Whitehorse, Nakusp, Surrey, Saanich, Mackenzie, and Kelowna. In the past the team's faced up against every team except Kelowna and Saanich, which should be interesting to see how they play.

The Houston Midget team has a total of 18 kids on the team, however three are unable to attend as they'll be elsewhere, however for the 15 who are going it's pretty exciting news.

You can watch their progress at the www.bchockey.net website.

Watch for fundraising events by the Midgets team by logging into houstonminorhockey.com, as they'll be raising the funds to go both before and after provincials.
