The Houston Christian School senior boys volleyball team is on the Lower Mainland this week competing in the Single A 2023 Boys Volleyball Provincial Championship.

A zone win two weekends ago in competing against six other teams paved the way for the appearance.

Liam Seinen was name an all-star at that tournament.

Coach Ed Kronemeyer said a combination of sponsorships, grant money and out-of-pocket expenses on the part of students and families made the trip possible.

The Lions Gate Christian Academy in North Vancouver is the primary venue with the Vancouver Christian School serving as another site.

Houston will have some familiar company as second place zone finishers Bulkley Valley Christian School also qualified to attend.

Meanwhile the Houston Christian School senior girls volleyball team finished second in their own zone tournament. Ebenezer Canadian Reformed School placed first. There were eight teams competing.

Unlike the senior boys, only the first place senior girls have the chance to travel to provincial championships.

Ella Opdendries was named an allstar.
