It is with much sadness the family of Ronald (Ron) McEwen announces his passing at home on July 8 following a lengthy illness. Outside of a year spent in New Brunswick after moving with his parents in 1979, Ron lived his entire life in Houston and spent most of his working life with Houston Forest Products. Though a workplace injury left him disabled and suffering chronic pain, he took great pleasure in teaching himself piano and guitar, listening to the music he loved, doing a bit of rock-hounding, and pampering the many cats he took in when they showed up at his door. He routinely indulged his interests in world history and current affairs, engaging -- if not initiating -- philosophical and political discussions with family and friends.
Ron was predeceased by his father, Alison (2013), and his brother, William Brent (2009). He is survived by his mother, Nora, sisters Gail (Miller) and Pamela (Graves), brother Alan, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to express thanks to Ron's long-time friend and neighbour, Dino Laramee, for the assistance and support he provided Ron - it was and is deeply appreciated. Ron's remains will be interred beside his brother Brent's in the Houston Municipal Cemetery. A family memorial will be arranged at a later date.
