February 9, 1945 - November 21, 2019
With deep respect and sense of loss we announce the sudden death of Robert (Rob) Alan Newell on Thursday November 21st, 2019 in Smithers BC. Rob was born during a bombing raid in Little Downham, Cambridgeshire, England on February 9th, 1945. Rob grew up in the Fens but soon found his home in Canada at the tender age of 19. He married the love of his life Judy Newell in August 1966. For those who knew Dad, he will always be remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor and deep love of the community of Houston and in particular, the small community of Buck Flats. He was the Regional Director for Area G since 2011 and up until his last days, fought hard for the rights of rural Canadians to make a better future for all.
Rob is survived by his son Christopher, daughter Andrea and their spouses, Laura and Duncan. Along with grandsons Elijah and Bodhi and granddaughters Melody and Heather. A celebration of life for both Rob and Judy Newell will be held at noon on Saturday, May 30th at the Houston Community Hall.
