Raymond was drafted into the French military in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1958 after fighting in Algeria. He then trained as a chef in France, eventually immigrating to Quebec in 1962. While in Quebec, Raymond continued to be a chef, but also took up parachuting, making many jumps. Around 1967 he moved to Victoria where he was hired as a sous chef at the Empress Hotel. There he cooked for many famous people including Her Majesty the Queen, Prince Phillip, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Princess Alexandra of Kent and Lord Mountbatten. While in Victoria he met and married Candace and became an instant father to Cathie. They moved to Houston where Raymond worked as head cook for Northwood for many years. When that job ended, he opened his own restaurant in Topley Landing, with his daughter Cathie at his side. Later Raymond would move back to Houston and work at the Houston Motor Inn, until his battle with MS caught up to him and forced him into retirement.
Raymond passed away on April 2nd 2008. A small family service was held at the old cemetery where Raymond now rests. He is survived by his daughter Cathie (William), grandchildren Daniel, Jeffrey & Matthew, his sister Francoise (Jacques) and many relatives in France.
