August 27, 1932 - June 11, 2025
Pieta Buter, aged 92, passed away peacefully at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital in Smithers, surrounded by family on June 11, 2025. She was born in Odoorn, Holland on August 27, 1932. In 1964 Pieta and her husband George with their 2 sons immigrated to Canada, settling in Houston before having 2 more sons. Pieta was a stay-at-home mother and wife spending her days tirelessly taking care of her children and husband.
Pieta was an active member of the community, a member of the United Church Women's Group and the Women's Institute. She enjoyed curling, golfing, bowling, biking, walking, baking and canning. She and her husband attending bonspiels all over the Bulkley Valley. After retirement they enjoyed travelling in their motorhome in the summers, seeing the sights in western Canada, visiting their sons and grandchildren, and attending the B.C. Senior Games in the fall. Mom and Dad's house on 15th Street will always be remembered for the beautiful flowers and bountiful garden. She stayed sharp by doing word search puzzles and wowed us all with her great memory of the past.
Pieta was predeceased by her husband George, her parents and 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her 4 sons, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and 2 brothers in Holland as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland.
