Eileen Stanyer, 1928 - 2020, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2020 at the Houston Health Clinic palliative care bed in Houston, BC.
Eileen and her twin brother, Ron, were born June 7, 1928 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Eileen is survived by her children, Wesley (Donna); Gail (Richard); Blaine (Julie); grand-children, Brent (Donna); Jeff (Emma); Travis; Nicole (Todd); Gage, Ashley (Greg); Cam, siblings Anita and Lyle, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many good friends.
Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband, Vern in July, 2004; 3 older siblings, Lola, Ken and Charles, her twin brother Ron, and a younger brother Garry.
Eileen was 16 when she moved to Prince George, BC with her parents. There she met Vern Stanyer and they were married on April 16, 1949. They lived in a logging camp at Bear Lake, BC until moving to Burns Lake, BC in 1962 and then to Houston in 1964.
Eileen's family was very important to her and she loved hosting family get-togethers to celebrate birthdays, holidays or any other momentous occasion. She loved to cook and collected cookbooks and recipes of all kinds.
Whether baking for Legion bake sales or cooking for events, Eileen always surprised us with tasty new recipes to try. You never left her place hungry or thirsty and all who showed up were made to feel welcome.
Eileen was always active. In early years she belonged to a bowling league and she loved maintaining her yard on Winter Ave. She mowed lawn in summer and shoveled snow in winter.
She also loved her daily walks to town where she had coffee with friends, picked up her mail and got her groceries. If she couldn't fit them all into her cart, she just made another trip.
Eileen was a life-time honorary Legion member. She contributed many weekend hours with the Ladies Auxiliary preparing meals for catered events or baking for bake sales. Afterwards, the ladies would relax downstairs with a couple of beers and maybe a bit of Karaoke.
Eileen had a fabulous singing voice and occasionally could be persuaded to give a rendition of "Tiny Bubbles" or "The Bug Song." Things were "tickety-boo" when old-time country music was playing and even more so if one of her grandsons was playing guitar and singing. Eileen, we're "gonna love you till the end of time."
We will miss that infectious laugh and bright smile that sparkled like the glitzy pins you always wore - Love and Hugs!
