May 30, 1940 - October 5, 2019
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of John on October 5, 2019. After suffering a heart attack in February, his health had been in decline. With his family by his side, we said a loving goodbye at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
John was well loved and highly respected; he was a man of integrity and honesty. As a successful business man, he gave opportunities to many young men. He had a strong work ethic and was old-school in his approach. If he gave you his word on something, you could count on him; many of his business deals were made with a handshake. These were just some of the wonderful qualities he passed on through leading by example.
John worked hard and played equally as hard. He was active in many community clubs and was instrumental in the start of the Hazelton Figure Skating Club. John and his wife traveled to many destinations over the years. He loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He had many interests and enjoyed golfing, curling, snowmobiling, time on his ATV, and watching his kids' activities. His interests were centered around gathering with family and friends. He had a lighter side that came through his joking and teasing.
John was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He is dearly missed by his wife Bonnie Koning; children Michael (April) Koning, Roxanna (Gordon) Rauch, Bradley (Sue) Koning, Aaron (Joy) Koning; nine grandchildren Michael, Gordon, Hailee, Goel, Keegan, Brayden, Liam, Kassandra, and Samantha; five greatgrandchildren Ryan, Brandon, Madison, Bentley, and Raelynn; three sisters Tena Sturwold, Betty (Peter) Lieuwen, and Reit Vriend. John had previously said goodbye to his parents Jan and Jacoba Koning.
At John's request, there will be no memorial service. His family will gather together at Francois Lake next summer to scatter his ashes in his favorite fishing hole.
You are invited to share a personal message of condolence for the Koning family at www.dignitymemorial.com.
