September 6, 1948 – April 29, 2018
Dennis passed away suddenly on April 29, 2018. He was born in Russell, Manitoba to Thelma and Roy Whitmer.
He is survived by his daughter Tracy Whitmer, his sister, Lois Koss, his brother Ron (Kim) Whitmer and grandchildren Jayda and Ron. He is predeceased by his parents, Thelma and Roy Whitmer, and his son, Clifford Ronnie Whitmer, and his brother-in-law Gordon Koss.
After attending school at the Major Pratt School, Dennis worked at the Co-op in Russell, Manitoba. He moved to British Columbia when he was 20 and started working in the logging industry in 100 Mile House. He lived here with his wife, Joyce Mann and they had two children, Thelma Tracy and Clifford Ronnie.
Dennis arrived in Houston in the late 1970s. He continued to work in the logging industry for several years. In the late 1990s, he started his business, Pleasant Valley Bobcat Services, which became his passion. He was an excellent machine operator, and he always took pride in his work. Dennis often socialized with the people he worked with and worked for. He was always up for a quick beer and visit at the end of his day. He always said that he would start taking it easy, but there was always the next job to complete. There are very few people in Houston and surrounding area that he did not come into contact with. He helped out a lot of people. He will be missed.
Please join us for an informal barbeque to celebrate Dennis’s life at 1pm on Saturday, August 4th at the home of Brent and Lia Long at 1535 Buck Flats Road, Houston, BC.
