Dawson was born on January 23, 1945 in Swift Current, Sask to George and Kay Bush. He grew up in rural Saskatchewan as a farm boy where he developed his love of animals. As a child his favorite pets were his Bantam chickens. After graduating he acquired his Civil Engineering degree. He worked for the Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resources. His first job was surveying on Mt. Blackstrap. Dawson loved carpentry. He worked with his Dad in construction, mostly building houses.
Around 1972 the Bush family moved to BC where he continued to work in construction. Houston was where he developed his love of the logging industry and he bought his first truck “Daddy Mack”. And so it began! Dawson spent several years living and working in Meziadin. He continued working in the logging industry, adding equipment operator to his jack of all trades list. After many years of being away he returned to Houston where he eventually retired. Throughout his life Dawson was a true adversary on the ice and the ball field, but he always wore his heart on his sleeve.
Dawson is survived by his brother Don (Brenda); children Renee (Mike), Andrea (Kelvin), Cameron (Terresa), Kathleen; grandkids Brian, Emily, Ainsley, Delainey, Liam, Michael (Renee); great grandkids Saphire, Chase, Georgia; nieces & nephews Karen (Jack), Glen (Danielle), James, Becky, Jordyn, Simon, Erica and Luke. He was predeceased by parents George and Kay and son Ian and wife Margaret.
Dawson will be missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, July 7th in the Topley Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, 4255 Laurel Street, Vancouver, BC V5Z 2G9.
