In loving memory ~

We are greatly saddened to announce the death of Catherine Ignas Girond, 97, of Terrace, BC. She passed away on February 22, 2024, after a sudden decline in her health.

Catherine was born on July 18, 1926. She immigrated with her parents to Canada when she was a girl and was an early pioneer to the Bulkley Valley, living in Houston and then moving to Terrace where she spent the rest of her life. She is remembered by those who knew her as a friend, sister, mother, business owner, master canner and pancake maker, to name only a few. Her home in Terrace was a haven to a diverse group of friends.

Catherine was from a family of six children. She was predeceased by her parents Maria and Nicholas Wasylyszyn and her siblings William, Steve, and Anne. She is survived by her sisters Polly Darnell and Molly Luszcz.

She was predeceased by both her first husband, Steve Ignas, and her second husband Mark Girond. She had 13 children with her first husband. She is predeceased by four of her children: Cecilia Ignas; Patricia Ignas; Monica Ignas and Daniel Ignas. She is survived by nine of her children, Barbara Trudeau (Harley); Wendy Caldwell; Elaine Ignas; Cindy Ignas (Dale); Steven Ignas (Adeline); Veronica Ignas (Charles); Heather Raymond (Richard); Mark Ignas (Sissy); and Dominic Ignas (Jacquie). In her life, she also cared for and is survived by her granddaughter, Darlene Elliot (who was the child of Cecilia Ignas). She is survived by many more grandchildren and great- grandchildren who cared for her greatly.

At this time, there is no formal arrangements for a funeral, but a celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
