Brian Kortmeyer, of Houston, British Columbia passed away on October 24, 2017 at the age of 65, after a long battle with cancer.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 in Houston BC at the Houston Community Hall 2302 Butler Ave from 1:00 p.m.
Brian's ashes will be spread on Morice Lake in July 2018.
Brian was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on March 10, 1952, son to Carl and Irene Kortmeyer. He was the youngest of three children. The family moved from Cabri to Black Diamond, eventually settling in Dawson Creek. He attended school in Dawson Creek and went on to study heavy duty mechanics. While living in the north, Brian's deep love and excitement for the outdoors was cultivated by his friends and family.
Brian moved to Terrace, BC in 1984 where he operated the A&W in the Skeena Mall. If not at work, he could be found on the river fishing or in the mountains hunting. Finding another business opportunity Brian moved to Houston, BC, to operate the Houston Pizza Factory.
He surrounded himself with a passion for long established friendships. His other preoccupation was with motorcycles. Brian had a deep love for riding, buying and rebuilding. Brian balanced work with his passion for fishing and hunting, spending free time at the rivers, lakes and mountains.
Brian was a very intelligent man. He loved music, books and art. He had many talents. He loved to work with his hands - mechanics, woodworking, rock work, gardening. Brian loved to travel around the world. He visited many countries and thoroughly explored western Canada.
In 2000 Brian met the love of his life, Tatiana. Tatiana and Brian were married on September 14, 2001. Tatiana shared in Brian's love of the outdoors and often accompanied him fishing and hunting. Brian and Tatiana were surrounded by gardens, fresh fish, and anything else nature could provide. They were inseparable and spent much of their time enjoying each other's company.
Brian is preceded in death by his father Carl Kortmeyer and mother Irene Kortmeyer.
Brian is survived by his wife Tatiana Kortmeyer, his sister Dianne Scriver, his brother Jack Kortmeyer, his mother-in-law Zina Cherkazyanova, and brother-in-law Sergei Cherkazyanov.
Brian has many nephews and nieces which he loved beyond measure. These words fail to sum up a man like Brian Kortmeyer. Many people would stand by the testament of his friendship, by the volume of his laughter. His humour was contagious, and his passion for fun was awe inspiring, even in the end.
He was a man that lived life the way God intended it as a free spirit with a back slap and a hug ready at all times. Brian will be missed deeply.
