Berend Hendrik (Henk) Hoornenborg

January 1, 2016

Hoornenbo

Berend Hendrik (Henk) entered into eternal peace with God on Sunday, June 12 at his home in Surrey BC.

He is survived by his loving wife Rena (nee Jansma) and children John (Jeannette), Sandra (John), Gwen (Tony), Anita (Alfred), Marcia (Mike), and Greg: 20 grandchildren, and a growing number of great grandchildren. He is also remembered by his three sisters in The Netherlands: Harmeine ter Beest, Willie Sluiskes, Hanny Hoornenborg, one sister in Surrey BC: Lynne Stellingwerff, and their families.

Henk was born in Aalten, The Netherlands June 1, 1938, a son of the late Johan and Geharda Hoornenborg. In 1957 he emigrated to Canada. There he became a newspaper man. At the same time he met and married his wife of 55 years.

All his newspaper experience led to him running his own newspapers in Houston and Burns Lake BC. They also lived in Smithers BC for almost 25 years, and then moved to Surrey.

He was always very involved in the church, was part of Toast Masters, loved to write, took many courses, including a comedy course, and travelled extensively with Rena after he retired.

Service was held Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
