Alan was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Clifford and Bettina Todd. He is survived by his love, Esther Larsen, siblings Gail Todd, Jean (Bill) Freve, Bill (Joan) Todd, Steven (Cynthia) Northridge, and Margaret Todd. He is also survived by his children Paula (Vic) Ferreira and Richard Todd, his grandchildren Jordyn (Tyler) Sandmaier and Trevor (Taylor) Saretsky, and great-grandchildren Logan and Payton.
Al started his family on Vancouver Island and moved to Houston, BC in 1975. He ranched in the Cariboo in the 1980s and then moved out to Alberta. He met Esther there and later they both moved back to Houston to be closer to the young grandchildren. Over the years, he worked in sawmills, operated all kinds of equipment and trucks, and shoed horses. He even instructed new farriers at one point.
Al always enjoyed the outdoors and had a sense of adventure. He enjoyed team roping and packing trips into the mountains, and more recently, you could still find him on horseback at a cattle sorting or gymkhana. He loved to get out camping or fishing whenever he could. He always looked forward to the opportunity to support his grandchildren in their love of all things horses and fishing. His arthritis and other health challenges didn't deter him much from living life and having a laugh doing it. We will all miss his quiet wisdom and his sense of humour.
There will be no service at this time.
