Wildfire update for the Houston areas as of 1:30 p.m. July 13

Peacock Fire was discovered July 6, size 625 hectares, wildfire crews, heavy equipment and structure protection is in place, status is still out of control. There is an order in place and it came into effect July 11 at 9 p.m., The evacuation order affects residents along Buck Flats Road and south of the Morice Mountain Nordic Ski Club to 2 kilometres south of the Roses Road Junction.

McKilligan Lake fire is 2kms east of the lake, size 0.5 hectares, status is under control. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

Heading Creek fire discovered July 7, size 90 hectares, status is out of control. There is an evacuation alert in place as of July 13, 2023 at 1200 hours. Because of the potential danger to life and health, the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has issued an Evacuation Alert for the Heading Creek FSR Wildfire, for all lands and properties in the vicinity of Old Man Lake Provincial Park. This includes properties accessed by the Heading Creek, Sunset, Swan Lake, and Maxan-China Nose Forest Service Roads, as well as Day Lake and Crow Creek Road.

Foxy Creek fire is 2kms west of creek, discovered July 7. No other information available at this time. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

China Knows fire, north of China Knows, size is 1.5 hectares. No other information available at this time. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

North of Old Man Lake fire, north of the lake, discovered July 8, size is 3.25 hectares, No other information available at this time. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

North of Nadina River, 1.5 kms north of Nadina River, discovered July 12, status out of control, size is 775 hectares. No other information available at this time. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

West of Owen Creek, 0.009 hectares, discovered July 12. No other information available at this time. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

4 miles south of Nadina Mountain fire, 2 hectares, discovered July 7, status out of control. No other information available at this time. There is no evacuation alert and order in place.

An evacuation center is now open at the community centre in Houston and staffed by emergency support services volunteers. A similar center in Smithers is also registering people leaving the area that’s under an evacuation order.
