At the District of Houston council meeting on Nov. 7, 2017 it was recommended by district staff that the West Fraser Mill industrial site, located on Morice River Forest Service Road, be resolved to continue to move forward to the subdivision application.
In March 2017, a preliminary layout approval for the land was subdivided into two different lots.
According to Agricultural Land Commission, West Fraser Mill’s application proposes to subdivide the 72.5 hectares of land into two lots, one lot being 63.8 hectares, and a second lot consisting of eight hectares.
In October 2017, Agricultural Land Commission wrote to the District of Houston that they require a resolution from the local government before proceeding to process the application.
The property is within the Agricultural Land Reserve of the District of Houston, so Houston council must endorse the subdivision application, which will be submitted to Agricultural Land Commission.
When Houston Today asked West Fraser Mill why they want to subdivide the property, they said, “We do not wish to comment on the ongoing application.”
The resolution was approved to continue the process for the subdivision.
