On Nov. 21, 2017 a water line break was discovered at Silverthorne Elementary School resulting in an emergency water shut off for homes and apartments located on Thirteenth Street between Butler Avenue and Copeland Avenue.
According to the District of Houston Facebook page, staff are investing the break and have notified affected residents.
At the District of Houston council meeting on Nov. 21, 2017 council asked for an update on the investigation.
Michael Glavin, Chief Administrative Officer for the District of Houston, said, “We have a water leak in the crawl space of Silverthorne [Elementary School], we do believe it is on their side, however, we are unable to find our cut off valve.”
Glavin added that it was discovered that the pipe that has the leak is a lead pipe.
District staff went house to house to inform the homes and called the landlords of apartments to inform them about the situation.
Counsellor Dennis Tait asked, “How many places have been affected?”
“Around 15 homes plus apartments,” said Glavin.
Glavin added that the water will continue to be shut off for 24 hours.
On Nov. 22, 2017 around 4:30 p.m. Houston residents on Thirteenth Street had water again.
