A second house fire in the community in two weeks has caused extensive damage to a residence on Olsson Road.

“The roof is burnt off,” reported Houston fire chief Jim Daigenault of a blaze in the early morning hours of April 6.

There were no injuries but the family cat did go missing.

Fourteen members of the Houston Volunteer Fire Department using two fire engines were called to the local at 2:53 a.m. April 6.

They were at the scene for about two and half hours.

As of late last week, an exact cause of the fire has not been determined.

Meanwhile, Daigneault said the first house fire on March 26 at a residence on upper Mountainview was likely related to the chimney of a wood-burning appliance.

“It is indicated that the chimney was the most likely issue in the cause of the fire but not 100 per cent confirmed,” he said.

Daigneault does advise people who use wood stoves to ensure they are in good working order.
