One man is dead and another person injured after a pick-up truck collided with a tractor trailer east of Topley on Highway 16.

Houston RCMP responded to the crash site at about 8:30 a.m., where the driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased man’s identity is being witheld until police have notified his next of kin. The injured person was taken to Lakes District Hospital for treatment.

Sgt Pam Scott, traffic services commander with the Terrace RCMP, said the cause of the collision is still under investigation. Slippery road conditions may have been a factor.

Highway 16 was closed for several hours as emergency crews responded to the crash.
