A temporary bridge is allowing single-lane traffic to cross over a sinkhole that opened under Highway 16 about two km east of Topley.
Drivers can expect 30-minute delays before following a pilot car over the single-lane bridge.
Ministry of Transportation District Manager Carl Lutz says staff saw a depression in the road on Thursday, and geotechnical drilling revealed that a space had opened under the road bed.
Crews dug up the surrounding road bed with excavators and installed the temporary bridge on Saturday. The steel bridge can support both light and heavy truck traffic.
Drivers are advised to check for further updates at Drive BC.
