District of Houston councillor Rebecca Hougen has clarified a quote attributed to her in an April 26, 2023 story concerning the debate on council on the size of this year’s property tax increase or whether there should be an increase at all.
The quote “Man, I love the idea of new taxes, but I also don’t see that as a feasible, fiscally responsible way to keeping order so I agreed with the 2.5 per cent,” should read “Man, I love the idea of no taxes, but I also don’t see that as a feasible, fiscally responsible way to keeping order so I agreed with the 2.5 per cent.”
