Crews continue to battle the Peacock Creek fire now estimated at 625 hectares in size burning south of Houston.
BC Wildfire Service information indicates the fire moved aggressively to the east yesterday. It remains listed as being out of control and a Fire of Note due to its proximity to populated areas.
At one point crews were pulled back to a safer staging area.
“Firefighters and heavy equipment are working to establish control lines on the east side of the fire,” the wildfire service said in a statement late this morning.
The fire was first reported July 6 with firefighters being supported by helicopters carrying large buckets and retardant-dropping aircraft.
A wind shift earlier this week expanded the size of the fire resulting in an evacuation order the evening of July 10 for residents closer to the fire scene followed by an evacuation alert the next day for more residents.
An evacuation centre is now open at the community centre in Houston and staffed by emergency support services volunteers.
