Houston council will replace distressed trees downtown with funding from the Bulkley Valley Credit Union.

The Credit Union grant is $6,000 and District of Houston costs for site preparation and early tree maintenance is $4,000.

Council approved planting seventeen trees in the downtown core, and staff has a plan in place to ensure trees are established and maintained, said District CAO Michael Glavin.

He adds that several businesses have agreed to help establish the trees.

The trees are ordered and will be planted within the month, Glavin said.
