On May 16 at the District of Houston council meeting, district staff brought to council the recommendation to award the contract for the construction of the water-main portion of the water reservoir project to Canadian Western Mechanical of Quesnel, B.C. at $1,411,483.50.

On May 16 at the District of Houston council meeting, district staff brought to council the recommendation to award the contract for the construction of the water-main portion of the water reservoir project to Canadian Western Mechanical of Quesnel, B.C. at $1,411,483.50.

This contract of construction for the water-main is the second of three contracts that make up the project.

The project was budgeted at $2,360,000. To date expenses are $770,000 for the water tower tender, $81,706,88 for consulting fees, and $1,411,483.50 for the water main construction tender if approved by council.

In total, $2,263,200 of the budget will have been spent, leaving a surplus of $96,799.

“Is that contingency?” asked counsellor Rick Lundrigan.

“That is what is left over engineering and any inspections, or project management and stuff like that,” said Don Hounsell, manger of engineering and operations for the District of Houston.

“With that contingency there, do you foresee anything coming up? asked mayor Shane Brienen.

“We don’t foresee anything coming up. That budget what you see there has the contingency in it. So we are well within our budget,” said Hounsell.

All council members were in favour of the recommendation and resolved to grant the contract. The water-main project is anticipated to start in July after district staff has received confirmation from the contractor.
