In a report issued on Sept. 12, 2012, the Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund (NEEF) Management Committee announced that, "up to 80 per cent of the total potential NEEF be available for the construction of a Water Release Facility (WRF) at Kenney Dam." The construction of the Kenney Dam in the 1950's flooded the traditional territory of the Cheslatta Carrier Nation.
In a press release dated the same day, the Cheslatta First Nations community expressed "satisfaction" with the recommendations of the report and they look forward to the project of "rehabilitating the land and river systems and allowing the souls of Cheslatta ancestors to finally rest in peace after 60 long and tragic years."
