Charging up

Granisle resident, Don Allen is seen here at Houston’s charging station with his electric car that he purchased January of this year. His car is comparable to a front wheal drive crossover SUV. Don said that west of Prince George the charging stations are only of 50 watt power while the stations he encountered further south of Prince George are 100 watt power, making for a faster charging time. Don goes to Smithers weekly for grocery shopping and leaves Granisle with his vehicle fully charged.

On his way back he stops in Houston for a quick charge of 10 KW and that will bring him back to his home where he has a Level 2 charge station. The charge station in Houston costs $0.21 per minute and Don says his weekly trip to Smithers costs him approximately $7.00. Don says that consumption depends on terrain and temperature. At his home, his car reaches a full charge in six hours. (Angelique Houlihan photo/Houston Today)
