On May 23 at the Pleasant Valley Plaza, the Burns Lake Special Olympic Bowling program had their final game and celebrated year end awards at Elements. There were 17 athletes at the event as well as parents and caregivers.

The Houston secondary girl’s rugby team won two out of three games at the AA rugby provincials in Abbotsford on May 24 to 27.

On May 27 at Willowgrove golf course a fun with friends tournament was held on a hot sunny day. There were 22 teams and 44 participants in the golf tournament. Next tournament with be Ladies Texas on September 16. Contact 250-845-2100 to register.

More than 2,500 athletes will be going for gold at Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park

On May 12 in Vanderhoof, the Houston Secondary girl’s rugby team won first place against two other rugby teams from Smithers and Vanderhoof. They will be now travelling to Abbotsford May 24 to 27 for AA rugby provincials. There are three tiers at provincials: AAA, AA and tier two. Each tier has eight teams from all over B.C. “We are just looking forward to going down and getting to play. Especially for the Grade twelves.

Houston Secondary School girl’s soccer team place third in zones in Kitimat on May 12 and 13. Teams from Kitimat, Hazelton, and two teams from Haida Gwaii, along with Houston attended the tournament. This was the first time the girls have played on a field this year, since the Houston Secondary School field was still thawing.

On May 17 at 8 p.m. there were quite a few spectators out watching the 14 to 18 years Houston Minor Softball practice. The baseball diamond was as silent except for the swoosh of the ball and the crack of it hitting the bat or glove. Mixed 14 to 18 years practice for softball are on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
