Annual Mud Bogs at the Houston Airport on June 24 was anotehr huge success. The seating area was packed, gooey mud splashing everywhere on a hot sunny day, and many delcious food from vendors to be enjoyed.

Gallery: Houston soccer tournament at Four Seasons

On June 10 at the Four Seasons Park in Houston, a soccer tournament was held for the U8 and U10 divisions. Four teams from Houston, four teams from Hazelton, three teams from Telkwa, and 14 teams from Smithers participated in the tournament. The U8 Houston Green Goblins lost two out of two games, U10 Houston Team Lightning won all three games, the U10 Houston Blue Bombers had one win and two losses, and U8 Houston Smurfs team had two losses and tied one game.

The Houston U14 soccer team played in Telkwa and Smithers on June 3, 2017 against six other teams and won third place in teh tournament.

On June 10 in Smithers, the Houston U18 soccer team competed in a tournament against six other teams and successfully placed third overall. Teams from Smithers, Hazelton and Houston competed in the soccer tournament. Houston played three games against three Smithers teams. Houston won their first game against Smithers 3 to 2. The second game Houston played against another Smithers team and tied 2 to 2. In their final game Houston versed another Smithers team and won 3 to 2 again.

In the story “Trails of Mount Harry Davis temporarily closed,” published in the Houston Today June 7 issue, the Houston Mountain Bike Association (HMBA) and Recreation Sites and Trails B.C. announced on May 17 that the trails were temporarily closed due to saturated soils for the heavy rain fall.

On June 7 at the Jamie Baxter Park baseball diamond, around 10 six to eight year olds practice their baseball “break” position where they have the baseball in their mitt and their elbow raised properly to throw. The kids tried to distract and convince their coaches to let them as they pleased, asking why they had to do this, and trying to run off on their own. But the coaches kept them in line saying, “If you don’t listen, you don’t get to bat.”

Alumni Houston secondary girl’s rugby game at Houston Secondary School on June 5. Former rugby players of Houston Secondary School (HSS) came out to the HSS pitch to play a friendly game against the current fifth place AA provincial rugby champions. A total of 21 girls played a mixed game consisting of alumni and current athletes of HSS to form two teams. Smiles and laughs were across every face as the girls raced across the field and tackled one another onto the ground.

On May 23 at the Pleasant Valley Plaza, the Burns Lake Special Olympic Bowling program had their final game and celebrated year end awards at Elements. There were 17 athletes at the event as well as parents and caregivers.
