Lots of fun and excitment at the Houston drags

Houston Drags were held Aug. 18, 19 & 20 at the Houston Airport. Participants races cars, trucks, bikes and sleds. Some particiaplants like Logan Calkins, age 9 from Kitimat was this years youngest racer. Other young racers were Shelby Peterson, age 13 from Prince Rupert and Delaney Ribeiro, age 15 from Kitimat, has been racing since was 8 years old.

Work-bee on mountain bike trails

Riley Makowichuk working on an new unnamed beginners mountain bike trail on Mount Harry Davis. The Houston Mountain Bike Association have been having regular work bees where volunteers come out to help maintain the area for the riding season. “There are four $250 gift certificates that we will be giving to the first four volunteers to complete 20 hours on the new trail,” said Zach De La Mare, president of the Houston Mountain Bike Association.

The U10 and U 12 soccer camp practicing at Northside Park on July 26, 2017. The drill was a variation of baseball and soccer. One player for the opposing team would have to kick the ball as it was rolled to them past a certain point and then run quickly to the first base. The soccer camp is hosted by the Dze L K;ant Friendship Centre in Houston. Coach Darren MacDonald leads the kids through a variety of drills and games for the young athletes to develop their skills.

Men’s golf at the Willow Grove Golf & Country Club is every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. This week 44 men came out to golf on the hot evening. Last weekend on July 28, 2017 there was a Men’s Texas Scramble golf tournament at Willow Grove. Visiting players from Smithers, Prince George, Terrace, Burns Lake, Granisle, Topley, Vanderhoof, and Calgary A.B. came out for the tournament. Around 29 teams of four players were registered for the event.

Morice Mountain cabin to cabin run

The first Morice Mountain cabin to cabin run challenge had 65 registrants as far as Smithers to Prince George on July 22, 2017. There were three divisions registrants could participate in. A 22.5 kilometer run from the Morice Mountain Nordic Ski Lodge to the Alpine Lodge, a 5.5 kilometer run, and a three kilometer race for children.

Lakes Bulkley Senior from Houston and Burns Lake came out to Willow Grove golf course on July 13, 2017 for a friendly game. Around 28 seniors the sunny summer day. Seniors golf at Willow Grove is every Thursday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The senior club charges $4 per time, and $20 for a round of 18 holes.

Gallery: Bulkley Valley District 4H camp in Houston

On July 11 until July 14 at the Four Seasons rodeo grounds, the Bulkley Valley District 4H club held a camp for skill building in horsemanship. This is the second year the camp has run in Houston, it is usually held in Smithers. The club hopes to continue to keep it at the Four Seasons grounds. Registrants from Terrace to Prince George come to camp for the week to be instructed by locals, play games, network, and develop skills. This year the camp had 30 kids registered.

Annual Mud Bogs at the Houston Airport on June 24 was anotehr huge success. The seating area was packed, gooey mud splashing everywhere on a hot sunny day, and many delcious food from vendors to be enjoyed.
