The Houston Hospice Society held a Gratitude Gala at the Houston Community Hall on March 1 to thank the community and raise more funds to extend hospice care in the district.
Dinner, cocktails, entertainment, a silent auction and a 50/50 draw were all included in the evening gala. Tickets were $40 and all proceeds went to Home for Hospice, which will enable the society to extend compassionate care and support to terminally-ill individuals and their families in the community.
Ellis Ross and Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach, and Ellis Ross, the Conservative's candidate to oppose Bachrach in the next federal election both attended the gala, with Ross serving as guest speaker.
The society purchased the Home for Hospice building on Tweedie Avenue last summer and is actively renovating it. It will act as a safe and affordable place for palliative and respite care, as well as, an office and storage space for equipment the society lends out as needed.
It is the only home setting in the entire Northwest that will be used for palliative care given by a family member, with support of the Hospice Society and the Houston Clinic.
Houston Hospice Society chair, Lisa Mueller, said the Gratitude Gala helped show appreciation to those in the community who continue to give their time and money to support the society.
"It was an event to say 'thank you' to the community for all the support they have been giving us since we purchased this new home for hospice last August," she said. "The community and people have really stepped forward to lend a hand, give donations, and show up and do the work of us renovating this home."
