With Hallowe'en taking Oct. 31, the Houston RCMP Detachment is encouraging the community to make safety a priority on this ghostly night.
Here are a few simple tips to put into practice while trick-or-treaters are roaming the streets.
Children:
  • Ensure costumes are visible – use reflective tape on yourself or your treat bag.
  • Make sure kids can see well – avoid masks that restrict your vision.
  • Don’t go out alone – walk with adults or a group of friends.
  • Don’t enter any houses – wait outside for the treats.
  • Have your treats inspected by an adult before eating any of them.
  • Walk on sidewalks where possible and use marked crosswalks.
Drivers:
  • Use extra caution, watch for excited trick-or-treaters who may forget pedestrian safety.
  • Reduce speed in residential areas.
  • Pay extra attention when backing out of driveways.
Homeowners:
  • Keep the path to your door well lit and free of tripping hazards.
  • Be kind to trick-or-treaters of all ages.
If anyone notices any suspicious activity, you can report it to the Houston RCMP at 250-845-2204 or 911 in an emergency.
