Houston Volunteer Fire Department firefighters found themselves fighting a fire on the outside upper level of a 14th St. house just after 4 p.m. July 1.
"The fire was in the attic and we started the initial attack on the two gable ends of the house," reported District of Houston fire chief Jim Daigneault.
Sixteen firefighters using two engines and one rescue vehicle responded to the call.
A cause was not immediately released.
Daigneault said there was damage to the roof and water damage to the interior of the structure.
Volunteers with the local emergency support services attended to three people at the scene.
Daigneault reminded Houston and area residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher on hand.
He also said people should have a route or routes planned out in case they need to leave a building in case of an emergency.
