Houston's volunteer firefighters had the griddles sizzling Oct. 5 through a pancake breakfast accompanied by a garage sale in aid of the Houston Volunteer Firefighters Charitable Association.
More than 100 people attended the event which raised money for the association's local efforts to assist people with traumatic wounds, injuries or chronic disease.
The association also helps for care facilities in Houston and with education and training. There are also scholarship and bursary opportunities and help for firefighters and their families during difficult times.
The concept is that money raised within the community then stays within the community to help community members.
