I think seniors opinions matter

I wondered what your thoughts were when you read in the paper “District lays out ambitions multi- year works plan” in the Feb. 14 issue of the Houston Today?

The amount was $66.8 million for 64 projects. Well I was shocked and thought we’d dropped into Houston, Texas. I believe our population is now under 3,000 people but I could be wrong and we have no major industry at the moment. We are all waiting for Canfor to start its 30 months of demolishing of the existing mill.

I do agree that we need some of the projects especially a new fire hall, that should come first. I wonder with the money that was spent to purchase the old highways department land for a new hall, couldn’t have been used along with the money set aside for the firehall couldn’t have got things started.

Yes, it looks great on the outside but it’s falling apart on the inside but a new hall can’t put out a fire or rescue people who have been in an accident. I noticed there wasn’t a lot of mention about how to help our seniors or to improve our road conditions.

I came here in 1971 to a bustling little town so I have seen all the changes that have taken place, both good and bad. The mall was full of shops as were many other businesses throughout town but sad to say it doesn’t have to offer what it once did but I love still having the businesses we still have here.

We took a big hit when we lost all our government businesses including our court house. I’ve said this before and I’m saying it again there is communication is lacking between our council and our Houston towns people who as long as they’re living in their homes contribute to your tax dollars and I believe your largest population is us seniors. Do any of you know how they think or feel about your one year, five year or 10 year plans?

Yes, I did vote you in but my opinion should still matter. Not sitting back and just letting you jolly well go ahead and do whatever you want. Please give me some consideration in your grandiose plans. Why haven’t you thought to ask the people who did vote you in how they feel about all this. Get their opinions what would it hurt?

I’m all for improvements when they can be affordable but not like this.

Sincerely and concerned citizen
