Topley reunion planned

Following the closure of the Topley Elementary School, Lisa Turcotte had an idea: let's host a Topley Reunion.

They're hoping to get as many people who have lived or gone to school in Topley, Turcotte said.

"I think it would be nice to see all the old friends and family and now that the school's shut down I'm not sure how much more connection there will be to Topley," Turcotte said.

It's a three day event, spanning from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10. On Friday they'll be registering attendees beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday games for both adults and children are being organized, as is a scrimmage game of baseball on Topley's new baseball diamond.  Saturday night will host a potluck dinner and dance as well, and on Sunday there is a farewell breakfast.

"We also have somebody putting together a history book," Turcotte said.

So far there's been a lot of interest, Turcotte said, especially on Facebook. There have been several people who have offered up prizes for the event, Turcotte said, including a quilt that features an outdoor scene as well as various others. Prizes will be awarded based on a variety of criteria, such as to the winner of the bocce ball game, or to the oldest attendee.

They'd like everyone to be registered by May 6 so they have a rough idea of how many will be coming, Turcotte said. Attendees can pick up their registration packages around Houston or Topley, and a Facebook page has also been created for the event.
