Rise of the no-slurp public water fountain

The Houston Leisure Centre and Claude L. Parrish Arena are reducing the use of disposable water bottles with refill stations

The old-school way of using a water fountain of slurping water from a pressured stream of water coming from a spout is a thing of the past, at least at the Houston Leisure Centre and Claude Parish Memorial Arena.

At these locations, patrons are reducing the use of plastic disposable water bottles. In the photo, Lucas Chartier, age 9, shows how he fills his reusable water bottle easily from a second spout that leaves enough room for his water bottle to be filled in an upright position.

These water fountains were installed in 2022 when there was a need to update the old fountains. The fountains are connected to Houston water lines but they also have a filtration system of their own.
