Houston Link to Learning runs events and regular programs to improve community literacy and strengthen families.

Last Thursday evening, almost 80 people enjoyed a Link to Learning family literacy night with dinner and table games for families to enjoy.

“It makes it easier for families to be able to connect,” said Renee Jaspers, assistant family literacy coordinator with the Houston Link to Learning.

Houston Link to Learning is a non-profit organization that offers programs to improve literacy skills of families in the community, said Jaspers.

Jaspers says their programs include Ready Set Learn, Family Nights, Food Skills for Families, Strengthening Families Parenting program, Nobody’s Perfect Parenting program and the new Stepping Stones Project in the Community Garden.

They also offer one-on-one tutoring classes and drivers license test preparation in a program room at Northwest Community College, she said.

Link to learning is partnering with the Houston Public Library to hold a Nordan Picnic and Barbecue on May 29 at the Library.

Those at the Houston Link to Learning hope that everyone will come out and show their support for the Literacy programs, said Jaspers.

“They really benefit our community,” she said.
