The Houston Gems served up 750 bowls of 25 kinds of soup to patrons at Houston Christian School last week to raise money for the Take a Stand for Kids initiative of Houston resident Carol Airey.

They had a profit of $3,000, which will go towards aiding children and their families in Nicaragua and to the Esther school in Zambia, Africa to help children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.  Some funds will also be given to the Aimee Bootsma and her school in Nicaragua for improved playground equipment.

Organizers put out a huge thank you to the businesses and people in this town who supplied soups and their time to make this event happen.
