The talents of the local arts community are carrying on past the first-ever community art show held June 23 at the seniors centre.

Starting June 26 and lasting until July 10, members of the Houston Arts Alive group have their works on display at the Palisades Cafe.

Group organizer Elizabeth Watson said the community are show was a perfect springboard for Houston Arts Alive.

“I’m very excited to see this community art show being organized. There’s an incredible amount of talent in Houston, and much of it is hidden from the public’s everyday view,” she said.

“Houston is so much more than just an industrial community and these events are a great opportunity to bring many of these talents and interests to the forefront for the community to enjoy collectively.”

The Houston Arts Alive exhibition contains works from approximately 15 local artists displaying pottery, acrylic paint, photography, oil paint and more.

This will be the third exhibit of Houston Arts Alive and each one involves participating artists taking their inspiration from one photo.

“This exhibit is very linked to the theme of spring/summer and the inspiration photo will be showcased along with the rest of the artwork,” said Watson.

She said there are many advantages to artists working within a group context.

“For some, the value in this group is the support and sense of artistic community. For others, I know they appreciate the challenge of thinking “outside the box” on a project,” said Watson.

“It’s also very fun to see how each artists develops such a different piece of artwork even though the inspiration photo is the same.”
