A catering contractor employee working at a Babine Forest Products logging camp north of Burns Lake went missing for approximately eight hours on June 7 after going out on a stroll.
“After several hours we called the RCMP, rented a helicopter and organized a search party of Babine foresters and our contractors,” described Steve Zika, CEO of Hampton Affiliates - company that owns Babine Forest Products. “We were fortunate to find her eventually and transported her to the Burns Lake medical facility.”
She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On June 15, Ann Goertzen, 84, was expected to arrive in Smithers at 7 p.m. but went missing. Family members say she has been “intermittently disoriented” lately but insisted on driving a 2005 Chevy Malibu from Hazelton to Smithers.
She was found the following morning in Prince George with no injuries.
