Man charged in Kitimat murder UPDATE

A 19-year-old male is due to appear in Terrace court this afternoon after being charged with second degree murder, aggravated assault and break and enter with intent.

A 19-year-old male who allegedly fatally assaulted a Kitimat woman and assaulted her husband over the Thanksgiving weekend appeared in Terrace provincial court this afternoon (Tuesday).

Tyler Scott Eli has been charged with second degree murder in the death of Teresa (Maria) Rego, aggravated assault for wounding Gualter Rego and break and enter into a dwelling house to commit an indictable offence.

The case was adjourned to give his lawyer time to speak with him.

On October 9, around 7 a.m., Kitimat RCMP were called to a Turney Street residence in the Whitesail neighbourhood for an alleged break and enter with assault. There officers found the victims who were in need of immediate medical help and were rushed to Kitimat General.

There Teresa Rego succumbed to her injuries and Gualter Rego was listed in stable condition following surgery.

An autopsy was scheduled to confirm the woman's exact cause of death, said police.

Corporal Dan Moskaluk said a short time after arriving at the house, RCMP located a male nearby and he was arrested without incident.

Eli's next court date is scheduled for October 25.
