The man charged with three counts of aggravated assault in relation to an incident that occurred at a pre-grad party at Sunset Lake appeared in Houston Provincial Court last week.

However, the matter has been adjourned to Sept. 18, 2017 to allow the accused, Gerald Lester Whitford, to consult further with counsel.

On June 8, 2017 at 12:22 a.m., Houston RCMP received numerous calls for service at Sunset Lake campground near Topley. According to the RCMP, when police arrived they located three individuals who were in need of medical attention as a result of an altercation involving several people.

According to a witness, one of the graduating students instigated a verbal fight, which then triggered a fist fight involving Whitford. The witness says that Whitford became unconscious during the fight, and that once he regained consciousness, he allegedly attacked the graduating student, and a second student got involved to defend his friend.

According to the witness, others stepped in to stop the fight, and the alleged knife attacker was then beaten up by a group of people.

“The ambulance, fire department, and cops arrived shortly after,” added the witness.

The injured individuals were taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The B.C. Prosecution Service does not provide an accused’s personal information to the public. Whitford is currently not in custody.
