Houston mountain bikers meet for new trail design

It was the highest record of attendees to date for the Houston Mountain Bike Association’s (HMBA) tailgate meeting

It was the highest record of attendees to date for the Houston Mountain Bike Association’s (HMBA) tailgate meeting on May 9.Around 12 people met on Mount Harry Davis and went riding afterwards once business was discussed.

“The meeting was about designing 2017 trails and getting a local contractor to do the trail work,” said Miake Elliot, boarddirector of the Houston Mountain Bike Association.

New trails will be built. Members discussed the desire to have an easy green trail which should be completed by this year.

“Easy green trail for first time riders combined with up track,” said Elliot. “It would be the first trail open in the valley.”

The HMBA hopes to have one to three new trails in place this year, “depending on the contractor,” said Elliot.

Currently the HMBA holds $22,500 from the Ministry of Forests and other small donations from Tutshi Ventures for the 2017project, says Elliot.

“We need to raise $20,000 more to complete their entire project plan which includes a skills park and family centre,” saidElliot.

No contractor has been hired yet.

Volunteer work-bees will meet every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the bottom parking lot of Mount Harry Davis.
