The Houston Today is the only local community newspaper serving Houston. and the surrounding area includes Topley and Granisle.
The trading area has a population of about 5,000. Houston is mainly an industrial community. There are two large modern sawmills -- Canfor and Houston Forest Products and a large pellet plant owned by Pinnacle Pellett. Houston is a headquarters and supply centre for servicing Huckleberry Mine.
There are endless recreational and sporting opportunities in Houston. A recent new organization organized is the Houston Hikers group which posts information about local trails and destinations on www.houstonhikers.ca.
